Yes, it came from just before he left Cream. The article I snagged it from describes in detail the inspiration and after-actions of the split.

It took me a while to formulate the caption. The songs that automatically came to mind when I thought “Eric Clapton” were all ones I didn’t think a dog would very likely pee on. It made me go pretty far forward in his career.
