The intrepid reporter makes a call from the field.
Beautiful vintage pinup model — her picture was second in popularity only to Betty Grable during World War II — and Paramount actress Noel Neill played Lois Lane in the first adaptations of Superman through both Kirk Alyn and George Reeves, in film and television as well.

Ms. Neill in a pinup pose.
Ms. Neill graciously gave fan-serving nods to her early comics role by appearing in cameos in Superman (1978) as Margot Kidder (Lois Lane)’s mom, and also portrayed Gertrude Vanderwurth in Superman Returns (2006), the elderly, dying widow of Kevin Spacey’s Lex Luthor.

Ms. Neill in 2008.
How is this Yesterday’s News? Because on November 25th, Noel Neill celebrated her 90th birthday. Dang! A happy happy one to a beautiful, nice lady. May she keep on trucking.
Special thanks to DC Women Kicking Ass for the shot of Lois Lane on the phone and the super-cool super-scoop (yesterday).

This actually happened.

In 1967, La mujer murcielago (The bat woman) was released? unleashed? visited upon the Spanish-speaking world like a biological weapon?

This hot ticket is Maura Monti, who played the titular Bat woman. The story is not about anyone familiar from the DC universe or the television series, but rather centered on making a race of gill people.

All caps have been via catwomanfan. Super-fat-bat-thanks. Check her out!
Bonus Italian poster art because I have The Technology:

Publicity still: Adam West and Yvonne Craig read Detective Comics #359, “The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl.”
With her role as Batgirl, Yvonne Craig’s own place in pop culture is secure. “There was no stigma to my having been Batgirl,” she notes. “No typecasting whatsoever. People really like the character. I was in a supermarket once, and a little girl came up to me and said, ‘I know who you really are!’ Then she said, ‘Barbara Gordon!'”
(Jankiewicz, Pat. “Recalling Batgirl.” October 2002. Starlog 303: 38-41.)

Demi Moore photographed by Matthew Ralston.
Irena: Some nights there is another sound. The panther. It screams … like a woman. I hadn’t realized how dark it was getting. I like the dark — it is friendly.
(Cat People. Directed by Jacques Tourneur. Screenplay by DeWitt Bodeen. RKO Pictures, 1942.)
I rented this from the library when I was 14 and it rocked my world. Super-hot. Not in a “furry” way — in a just-before-the-censors went nuts way. Sexy dialogue, dark and mysterious clouds coming out of sewers, thick bangs, blondes and brunettes, light bdsm and love triangles. Like, wow! And it’s all at Your Local Library.

The truth about cats and dogs. Simone Simon with a statue of Anubis in a still from Cat People.
Simone Simon, and the picture itself, have developed something of a cult following over the years — this is a coy understatement; there are like just under sixteen hundred blogs I’m sure dedicated to how to most precisely masturbate to the technical prowess of Tourneur’s Cat People — and the popularity of her portrayal as Irena in the film has not left the character of Catwoman untinged. In the 1966 Batman movie, “the Catwoman” (not series regular Jul-Newms, who was washing her hair, but rather your Miss America 1955 Lee Meriwether) poses as a sexy woman from the USSR named Miss Kitka Karenska, employing vaguely the same hairstyle and Romany-rich Eastern European accent used by Simone Simon in Cat People.

I can has intense sexual cult following?
More importantly, after DC’s Infinite Crisis, which-kind-of-but-not-really restored a lot of the retconned into obsolescence storylines that were wiped out in Crisis on Infinite Earths, in One Year Later, Selina Kyle uses the name Irene Dubrovna when she must hide out in the underworld, having temporarily sort-of-retired from her Catwoman vigilante duties due to her pregnancy with Helena, her daughter. (This Helena is not the Helena Wayne of Earth-Two, nor the Helena Kyle of Earth-2, but a Helena in general, of whom what will become — eventually taking up the Huntress mask? tracking down her father for suresies? something else? — it remains to be seen.)

PSA: This arcade belongs to the fucking Batgirl!* And none of you cockmongering assmunchers best forget it. She will mess the shit of all you ne’er-do-well cuntnecks** the fuck up, but proper!!

Ohhh, DC. You and your “leaks” and “apologies” for/of cusswords. Your lust for sales will slay us all.
*Is that anything like “the goddamned Batman?” you wonder. Mmm. Not yet. But delicious, memey-riffic time will tell.
**What is a cunt neck? I don’t know, it just came to me as a good insult. Like it seems it is a comparison to the neck of someone plump and vital in youth but maybe now gone to seed that has become all wrinkly and fleshy and vag-y? It is an insult that I think invites understanding of repulsion and distinct un-sexiness. Not sure exactly. I just know I am being vulgar as all kinds of heck in this post and I am (clap-clap, criss-cross-gesture with hands) ALL DONE for the day! King-size cusses. So done. SeaQuest out!

It happens: Liberated negative space — it is a Thing! Black Cat v. Catwoman with a little PSA-war action.

Catwoman has herpes. The Bad Kind!

Black Cat gives rotten head.
Meow. Hey, have you got Something Special on your mindgrapes? Be cool: Say it with spray paint!

CBR’s Kelly Thompson has named Kate Kane, Batwoman, the #1 Female Comic Character of the Decade.

Art by J. H. Williams with color by Dave Stewart. Kind of a Kahlo-influenced Dia de los Muertos sugar skull vibe, somewhere between a prayer card and an xray, gruesomely awesome and totally apropos genre of art especially given her gal is Renee Montoya. This cover art + me = Total. Love.
The rest of the list is singularly amazing as well. It includes Cassie Cain as Batgirl, honorable mention for Det. Renee Montoya as The Question —Kate Kane’s sweetheart— and a shout-out to Detective Deena Pilgrim from the Powers world (I have always favored the idea of Retro Girl better than the actuality of Deena and her unmasked heroism, personally, ever since I shut myself in the bath one day following a fight with my husband and read Who Killed Retro Girl? until the water got cold, and I continually peruse Powers in the hope of seeing Pilgrim take on that intriguing mantle one day, but so far no go).

Renee Montoya, formerly one of Gotham’s Finest, now The Question.
Additionally, Thompson gives a glowing enough account of a “Micchone” heroine from Walking Dead that I’m actually willing to give a zombie comic a spin, so give the article a read if you’ve got some loose bills left over from Christmas folding money and are looking for new things to read.

“Hurt me.” And I thought I had Daddy Issues? Cropped from a scan by scans daily’s gallery from Batgirl 49-50 when Cass done got fired.
Super fat-bat-thanks to Peteski, aka nevver on the tumblr, who is always hooking me up to badass shit that brightens my day.

Originally named Kathy Kane, the character [Batwoman] was introduced as a love interest for Batman to disprove allegations of homosexuality in response to the backlash from the book Seduction of the Innocent (1954). (the wiki)

Lost the credit but it’s fairly obviously a character sketch from DC.
The modern incarnation of Batwoman, Kate Kane … is written as being of Jewish descent and as a lesbian in an effort by DC editorial staff to diversify its publications and better connect to modern day readership. Batwoman’s sexual orientation has been both criticized and praised by the general public and the character has been described as the highest profile gay character to appear in stories produced by DC Comics.

Batwoman, Kate Kane, with Det. Renee Montoya, now The Question via dance with shadows.
Oh, those crazy redheads.

Are you seeing this sassy molassy?

Uh, how about, screw you, Batgirl, because you can’t even read!
Actually this Batgirl can read, since it is old school, but the one before the present one (does anyone else kind of hate current Batgirl Stephanie Brown?) was straight up illiterate, and it always reminded me of that old SNL sketch with Charlton Heston about the president being illiterate, which makes me think of when ancient friendoh the Cappy and I were watching American President in high school because we had a teacher who did movies instead of, like, having an actual curriculum (once I walked out of her classroom and started playing tennis with my friend, and she didn’t even say anything to me), and we were doing “The president … is illiterate!” jokes the whole time.
Long story short, can you believe this saucy-sauce? Screw you, Batgirl! Catwoman will get you. And your little dog, too.

Yesterday, while cruising Bonanza Books & Comics with my daughter, after hearing they do not carry issues of Birds of Prey that they know of, my mind leaped from Barbara Gordon as Oracle to likely Barbara as the squinchy-faced Batgirl from Kevin Maguire’s sketch. I nipped over to the recent DC release section to see if they had any copies of this Batman Confidential ruckus. They did, and, while their current issues look pretty interesting, I had to go with this older issue, even if it is in the middle of the series (what can you do? I am powerless to resist Catwoman).

Girrrrlfiiiight!
I actually read that in one of the issues in this series, Catwoman and Batgirl are about to rumble on a rooftop when Catwoman gets shot off the roof by someone else, and apparently Batgirl freaks out on the shooter. That sounds rad, I hope it happens in this one. If it doesn’t, I’ll have to broaden my search for the rest of the issues in this series.
